A recent study published online on ” the journal of Obesity highlights a beneficial and positive effect of the physical-activity on the weight loss and the quality of life of 190 operated patients of a bariatric procedure.

  • The exercise shortens the time of recovery of the patients and reduces the risk of post-surgical complications.
    The physical-activity improves mood and reduces the stress.
    The weight loss is significantly major (> of 2 points of BMI) in the group of the patients (68%; 2/3) which had been committed already following a programme of physical-activity in the phase of preoperative preparation

The commitment to practise a physical-activity is part of the moral contract drawn up between the obese patient and his surgeon!

Prepare gently with the physical-activity before the surgery:

  • To acquire flexibility with yoga   
  • To go 15 minutes on foot twice a day
  • The final objective should be to make from 20 to 30 minutes of physical-activity three days per week..

SPORT AFTER SURGERY OBESITY

The obese person must give the body in feelings before giving it in action

The physical suffering of obese, which, like know we it all, includes dyspnea, articular pains, reduction in mobility, legs heavy, displacements outside difficult, requires in oneself an assumption of responsibility of first intention. To treat the pains, to improve mobility and coordination per- put to relieve the physical suffering. Indeed, before expecting our patient whom it takes pleasure to move, it is imperative to make the movement less painful.

Carefully start to practise sport after the bariatric surgery

It is necessary to devote time to the listening of its body, to become aware of its breathing, to identify its postures, to stretch, practise various methods of relieving. The exercise must be moderate, reasonable, mild and with prolonged time (to go, climb and after 3 weeks to swim).

The first operational month post it is preferable to go back to its activity gradually. For the period of sick leave, a walk from 30 to 45 minutes is recommended, if possible, morning and evening. Displacements on foot are beneficial during the day besides the two longer outputs. A more constant physical effort (to climb) is possible after about ten days.

The baths are possible in swimming pool only from 21 days after the intervention. Front, the cutaneous cicatrization is not finished and water can have an effect digging on the wound.
 

Physical-activity after bariatric surgery

  • The objective in six months of surgical operation is to be able to make a physical-activity with a training aerobic during 30 minutes three to five days per week.

    Standard exercises during this stage:

    Yoga Goes on foot, Cycling, aquagym and swimming with palms and plates.

  • 6-12 month after surgery

  • Votre BMI will be descended to the lower part 30 kg /m2!

    L’ objective in 12 months of surgical operation is to be able to make a physical-activity with a training aerobic during 45 minutes 4 days per week.

  • ♦Exercices during this stage: Yoga, Walk on foot, Cycling, aquagym and swimming with palms and plates, dance, kickboxing

  • > 12 months after surgery

  • Votre BMI will be descended to the lower part 27 kg /m2: you are not obese any more!

  • Vous achieved your goal in term of weight loss and disappearance of comorbidities!
    A so radical change, it should be maintained!

    We always say to patients that exercise is not an option, it is a “must”, a duty and then a pleasure!
    With this stage the recommendation is the same one as the general population: 45 minutes of exercise at least four days per week

    Standard exercises during this stage:
    ♦Buy a travelator for the jogging (during the winter season) with possibility of changing speed and the slope: work during 45 minutes.

    ♦ Yoga, dance, kickboxing, aquagym and swimming with palms and plates!
    ♦ go in the open air and be proud of your new body!
